The fourth annual Berbice Expo and Trade Fair, hosted at the Albion Sports Complex on the Corentyne, ended last night.President of the Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce, Bhigroog Poonai, dubbed the activity a success.Up until Sunday night, the event attracted some 20,000 patrons. Plants were given free of charge to patrons at the end of every night in support of the ‘Grow More’ campaign.According to Deroop, Region Six produces a large quantity of Guyana’s sugar, and is the second largest in terms of rice production.The booth also featured clippings of community outreach programmes and other aspects of development in East Berbice /Corentyne.Proprietor of the Shivam Furniture Company out of India, Vinod Kumar Gupta, explained that each item on display was hand-made from material coming out of India. The company had on show articles of Indian clothing, mats, bags, decoration and furniture.The Shivam Furniture Company out of India has been in Guyana for five years, Gupta said.The company has been present at the Berbice Expo since the inception. “The Expo is good for business. It boosts sales, and that is why we are here every year.”St. Francis Community Developers displayed work done across the Region by the organization and its 21 support groups.Zaheer Ali, Child Friendly Officer of the St. Francis Community Developers, and his team promoted the Family, Youth and Children at Risk services in Region Six.These are supported by UNICEF. These services are offered at St. Francis Community Developers in Port Mourant, Albion Chapel at Fyrish and the Mibicuri Community Developers at Black Bush Polder.The other booth of the St. Francis Community Developers was headed by Visvanand Ramdial counsellor/tester of the St. Francis Community Developers, who explained that the organisation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the National AIDS Secretariat, conducted voluntary counselling and testing exercises.
